How long have you been in business?
My wife and I started B&D Appliance Service in 1998 but I've been repairing appliances for over 30 years now. I had an appliance business with a partner in Santa Clarita, CA before this. I trained my son Jeff and he's become an excellent appliance technician. We are a family business.
What is your primary product or service?
Repairing appliances at the customers home. This includes refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves, ovens, ranges, cooktops, freezers, ice makers, and garbage disposals. We also give advice and sell appliance parts to the do-it-yourselfers.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
It was meant to be. I was 21 years old and my best friend at the time, Charlie, had moved back to his home town (Santa Clarita, CA) to start up an appliance repair business with his Dad. His Dad was a retired appliance technician, with 35 years experience, and he didn't like being retired. After a couple of years, they were expanding and asked me if I would be interested in learning a new trade. I packed up my stuff and moved to Santa Clarita !! Charlie's Dad (Chuck) ended up being a second father to me and taught me so much! Within a year I was able to do more calls in a day than Charlie.(That made Charlie mad!) Chuck would say to Charlie,"Why can't you be more like Bob !" Charlie would say "Slow Down Bob! You're making me look bad!" I wasn't trying to make Charlie look bad. I just loved what I was doing. I am forever grateful to Charlie and Chuck for giving me the opportunity. That was in 1980. Over 30 years ago. It changed my life!
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are the lowest priced. We keep our overhead low so that we can pass on the savings to our customers. We treat people the same way we would want to be treated. We want our customers to be happy with our service so they will want to call us the next time and the time after that. When you give people great service at a fair price, they will tell 2 of their friends. When you give people poor service and rip them off, they will tell 10 of their friends. It's called Karma.

What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
When customers call me just to tell me how impressed they were with my son and how knowlegable and friendly he was is the best compliment anyone can give me. I get those calls all the time. That never gets old.
