Genealogical society and family history research library that provides educational opportunities
The Southern California Genealogical Society was organized January 10, 1964. Its current offices are located at 417 Irving Drive, Burbank, California.
Through its programs, members are offered the opportunity to list queries, survey indexes, join special interest groups and provide support for other members and their activities. The Society business office houses a Family Research Library with over 40,000 volumes including 6,000 family histories. Research resources also include manuscripts, microforms, maps, periodicals and electronic data resources for use by its members and the general public. Library holdings include materials from every state and many countries, with emphasis on Germany, French Canadian, Cornwall, and other special collections.
The SCGS Family Research Library has received designation as a FamilySearch center, which allows SCGS patrons to rent microfllm and microfiche through the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.
The Society is a non-profit corporation and enjoys 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Donations of cash, library materials, or other contribution may qualify as charitable contributions.
The annual Genealogy Jamboree is recognized as one of the premier education and exhibitor events in the United States. Consistently drawing more than 1500 attendees, it is also one of the largest USA genealogy conferences.
