Psychotherapist
There are plenty of challenges and opportunities unique to a living made from creative output.
Few might consider what it’s like to have deeply personal material, or the inherently vulnerable act of performance, be extruded into (capitol b) Brand and exposed to the peanut gallery. If they did, they might see how deeply challenging such work can be.
In the life of a working artist, concepts of public and private identity can blur into each other. It’s not surprising that a focus on attaining traction and recognition can lead to difficulties, often regardless of success or failure… but traction and recognition and Brand drive income. A given session with me may be about improving mood, or a path toward more effective collaboration, or getting unblocked, or whatever else may be a challenge that day, but, ultimately, my work with creatives boils down to getting practice in place. Practice to maintain a view where the work can be the work, the Brand can be the Brand, and the self can be the self.
