I have had an optometry office in Santa Monica since 1972.
What is your primary product or service?
I examine eyes for both vision and medical problems and provide treatment plans for these problems, which may involve prescribing gl glasses, contact lenses, medications or referral to other medical professionals. We also sell glasses and contact lenses.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I have always been interested in how we see things, and the ways eyes function. I never tire of hearing people tell me how they appreciate it when I make them see better.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
SWe are a small office and give people personalized attention. We try to explain and demystify the complexities of medical insurance and give people choices in their treatment plans which are most affordable and give the most bang for the buck.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I have just one location and that keeps me busy enough.

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Expres) plus Care Credit, a card specialing in medical services that offers short term no interst financing if balance is paid within 6 months. We also accept cash.
Which areas do you service?
Although we are located in Santa Monica I have some long time patients that travel long distances to continue under my care.

I (Dr John Elman) am the sole proprietor of my business.
What are your hours of operation?
Our hours are 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Friday and 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on Thursday. Dr Elman has Saturday hours by appointment only. What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
I guess the best compliment anyone can give me is when people tell me that they appreciate the effort that I have given to help them. They realize I have done my best for them and it is acknowledged. I will try to do my best anyway but the acknowlegement makes it special.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
I guess my favorite quote is the one attributed to sports icon Michael Jordan: "Always leave something to finish." In the context he said it he meant to pace yourself so you have enough energy at the end of the game to take over when you have to--to win the game. It applies to life also--you never know when unforeseen circumstances, sometimes emergencies, are going to put your day into overtime--be ready for it!
