and successful family functioning.

The McKinley Children’s Center’s Brain Lab is a top-grade, technology-based reading center service for children. It is geared toward helping children who are behind in their reading skills, but is just as useful in helping those children who simply want to improve their reading capabilities. It uses neuroscience technologies to diagnose reading deficiencies and to then tailor a customized program that will help the student achieve his or her goals. And the best part is that the computer-based programs are fun for the children, so he or she is able to play while learning.
McKinley's Mental Health Program includes rehabilitative and psychological services such as individual, group, case consultation, collateral services, crisis intervention, medication support and management services, psychological assessment and targeted case management. All clients meet the criteria for medical necessity as established in the Short Doyle Act administered by Medi-Cal Services under the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.
Clients of McKinley Children's Center Residential Program, Canyon View Non-Public School, McKinley Foster Family Services as well as children in the community are eligible for services after qualification. Assessment and coordinated care plans are completed by a competent Mental Health Professional.
McKinley Children’s Center believes in providing a home-like environment to those who aren’t fortunate enough to have one. Our Residential Program offers a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week haven for boys between the ages of 6 and 17 to call home. The boys reside in cottages that provide a safe and secure environment with individual, group and family resources to promote emotional health and provide permanency placement upon discharge from our facility.

How long have you been in business?
McKinley Children's Center has been in business since the year 1900 or 113 years in 2013.

To help troubled children gain the skills, knowledge and self-esteem essential to personal maturity and successful family functioning.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
In January of 1900, the Industrial Home Society was born through the vision and courage of the Reverend and Mrs. Uriah Gregory. The Home would later, in admiration and respect for the late President William McKinley, take his name.
Through those first years, Reverend and Mrs. Gregory cared for orphaned, homeless and abused children at their 33-acre ranch site in Artesia but, following World War I, the need to improve and enlarge the Home was overwhelming. Through the gifts and extraordinary efforts of Mr. Mericos Whittier and the Kiwanis Club of Los Angeles, a new 200-acre site in Van Nuys was acquired. The new home was completed in 1923 and the capacity rose from 100 to 250 boys.
